Face Yourself

'Tales Of Death'

Hailing from the gritty streets of New York with roots stretching from the rocky mountains of Colorado to the bustling boardwalks of New Jersey and even across the pond to France, Face Yourself isn’t your run-of-the-mill Deathcore band. These guys (and gal) are redefining the genre, one ear-shattering EP at a time. In just one year (ONE!) since their very promising debut in March 2023 with their self-titled EP, Face Yourself has churned out not one, not two, but three EPs and a whopping nine music videos. The second EP, 'Death Reflections,' dropped like a horror flicks surprise sequel in June 2023. And trust me, their fanbase ate it up faster than zombies on a fresh brain. Face Yourself are dedicated to the cause – the cause of bringing heavy brutal deathcore to it’s fans.

But let’s talk turkey – or should I say, talk 'Tales Of Death.' This latest EP is a five-track tour de force that cements Face Yourself as the grim reapers of top-notch deathcore already in their first year – which is quite unbelievable. Each track is a masterclass in how to blend the macabre with melody, turning our darkest fears into headbanging dissonance anthems.

'Tales of Death' kicks off with 'The Betrayer,' a track that's as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face. Yasmin’s gutturals hit you like a freight train of filth, and that breakdown well, let’s just say it’s like dragging a planet out of orbit, immensely heavy and defying the laws of nature. Eric DiCarlo smashes the drums, Thomas Cardone and Corey Doremus riff masters of the guitars with Dave Ricco leading the charge, and Kyle Muenzner holds down the fort with bass and backing vocals.

'Sirens' is a whirlwind of dissonance, and Yasmin’s bellowing growls mixed with higher raspier tones are a headbanger's delight which hits straight into the next song 'Bathory' which is just an all-out straight up assault with twists and turns that'll leave you dizzy. Just listen to that quality production as well - makes you want to turn it up every time a song comes on!

In short, 'Tales of Death' is a deathcore odyssey through the shadowy alleys of the genre. It’s still jaw dropping that they are competing at such a high level in their first year, I cannot stress that enough! Face Yourself is the new juggernaut in the extreme metal scene, and it feels like they’re just revving up. I wouldn’t be surprised in 2024 or 2025 that they could be snagged by a major label. The music is already killer and they seem to be gaining great traction with some social media buzz, if you're into this kind of sonic mayhem, you better hop on this freight train of darkness – next stop, Deathcore Nirvana!
