'Supersticious'

Mr. MiLK, based out of Sin City Las Vegas, Nevada has recently released his own self-written and self-produced album titled ‘Supersticious’ with 8 tracks in total. This is a quick fire review so think of some of Nine Inch Nails and Mobys earlier work infused with some 90s game soundtracks. The album could be described as mainly electronic blending into ambience soundtrack work, alternating between quirky hope and offbeat dread in sprawling ambient meditations. ‘Tunnel’ is a good example of this, a slightly unnerving intro that slaps straight into a distorted drum beat and a guitar riff that just gets more distorted and powerful as it progresses until it decays away.

‘Covet The Sunlight’ and ‘Found’ are excellent examples of ambient soundscapes that elevate you away to distant lands and there are enough variations in the music that it starts to sound like minimalist classical music and wouldn’t feel out of place on Trent Reznors latest ‘Ghosts’ records. ‘Melting Greenhouse’ gives slight nods to Primus with its funky guitar clean licks combined with max overdrive heavy riffs and gives the listener more to chew on. ‘Moldy Pork’ has a great sense of urgency about it and would definitely lend itself to the indie gaming scene, some sort of 2D scroller or adventure game. The bass is superb throughout with anchors the song while the high noted synths guides the suspense and really gets better with repeat listening.

‘Supersticious’ is quite the enjoyable journey and very promising from the young musician, not to mention a few surprises sprinkled into this album that keeps you on your feet if you listen closely. Give it a whirl.
